BASIC SEPTIC SYSTEM INSTALLERS WORKSHOP
March 4, 2020 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
USDA Service Center – 1423 Broadway, Bangor, Maine
Glenn Angell, Retired State Site Evaluator and Dave Rocque, State Soil Scientist, have many years of experience to share, as licensed site evaluators. Hear what they have learned over the years and improve your knowledge of septic systems.
Penobscot County Soil & Water Conservation District is offering a septic system installation workshop designed for Contractors, Local Plumbing Inspectors and Site Evaluators. This training qualifies for continuing education credits for Site Evaluators, L.P.I.’s, inspectors, and contractors (for both septic system installation and soil erosion & sediment control). Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of attendance. For contractors, this workshop qualifies as the course required for voluntary certification (certification is contingent upon satisfactory inspection of two septic systems by an LPI after completion of the course).
Topics include: Revisions to the SSWWD Rules, erosion/sediment control (what, where, when and who), what causes failures and how to avoid them, inspections which can hold up things, the interchangeability of disposal field devices, installer liability, reading and understanding the HHE-200 Form, how water moves into and through the soil, septic system hydrology issues, fill extension retaining walls, backfill specifications and history, installing septic system force mains through wetlands, force main stream crossings, septic system related well contamination case studies, Natural Resources Protection Act and Mandatory Shoreland Zoning issues you should know. Must pre-register.
